Roofs and Gentiles

In the Promised Land, the drama of Gentiles entering into God’s covenant starts on a roof in Jericho–Rahab hides the Israeli spies and confesses , ” . . for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” She was incorporated into the nation of Israel and, indeed, is listed in the genealogy of Jesus.
The drama continues over the millennia to a roof in Joppa–Peter receives a vision from God, who thrice says, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”

Joshua 2:6
But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order there.

Acts 10:9
The next day as they were still on their way and were approaching the town, Peter went up to the roof of the house to pray, about the sixth hour (noon).

Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
We thank You that by going up higher, by going up on a roof, these men of Israel “spied” Your purposes and plans and ushered us Gentiles into Your blessed covenant. Holy is Your name and blessed are the children of Israel. Help us Gentiles in the Mississippi Delta to ascend higher that we, too, may usher others into Your kingdom. Amen.
