Psalm 74:18-23 (NLT)
See how these enemies insult you, Lord.
A foolish nation has dishonored your name.
Don’t let these wild beasts destroy your turtledoves.
Don’t forget your suffering people forever.
Remember your covenant promises,
for the land is full of darkness and violence!
Don’t let the downtrodden be humiliated again.
Instead, let the poor and needy praise your name.
Arise, O God, and defend your cause.
Remember how these fools insult you all day long.
Don’t overlook what your enemies have said
or their growing uproar.
Our Father in heaven,
We thank You that in Your goodness and mercy, You were Abraham’s friend, even though he was a polygamist and slave owner. We thank You that in Your love, You established a covenant with him and his descendants.
We thank You that in Your goodness and mercy, the Christians in Mississippi have been grafted into the covenant root that You established with Israel. This covenant has been sealed with the blood of Your Son Jesus, and we are in awe of Your love for us.
Our nation has dishonored You in many ways, and yet, You still love us. Blessed are You, Lord God.
We call upon the promises of this covenant for the children of the Mississippi Delta. Don’t let the wild beasts destroy Your turtledoves. Amen.
