“Sugar Ditch is broke after 20 years of living the high life.”
Thus begins a recent editorial entitled “Is the party over for state’s casinos?” by Wyatt Emmerich. Because of increased competition, gaming revenues are considerably reduced. The Tunica supervisors are withholding the city of Tunica’s portion of the gaming revenues, and they have gone to court. The supervisors have increased taxes on the casinos by 50%. County support of the fire protection and airport have declined. They have also withheld the school district’s share of the gaming revenues. Emmerich concludes,
“This has the makings of a complete governmental meltdown.”
The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
Dear Lord, we pray that You bring the governments of Tunica County and the city of Tunica into alignment with Your principles.
By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.
We bless the land, governments, businesses, education, media, arts and entertainment, churches, and families of Tunica County. Blessings high and low, on water and land, in every dimension and every realm, seen and unseen. Amen.
