Gideon delivered Israel from Midian, Amalek, and others from the east. He came from the tribe of Manasseh. These enemies acted in alliance to raid the harvests. Today, there are alliances of predatory cyclical devouring in our own culture.
I find it interesting that the following blessings rest on Joseph’s head, and the next sentence refers to powerful horns.
Gideon–to hew down or cut off
Manasseh–forgetting, forgetfulness.making to forget
Deuteronomy 33:16-17 (VOICE) Mosaic blessing of Joseph
. . . With the best the land has to offer
when it’s filled with good things,
And most of all may it be blessed
with the favor of the One who appeared in the burning bush.
Let all these blessings rest on Joseph’s head,
on the head of this prince among his brothers.
He’s majestic, like a firstborn bull;
he has powerful horns, as does a wild ox.
With them he will gore the nations, driving them away to the ends of the earth.
This is the power of Ephraim’s ten thousands,
of Manasseh’s thousands of troops.
Our Father in heaven,
Make us to forget the predatory cyclical devouring in our own state! You used Gideon and his 300 men to hew down or cut off the enemy of Israel. Raise up intercessors to hew down or cut off this demonic alliance in Mississippi. Let all the blessings of good things and the favor of the One who appeared in the burning bush rest upon their heads that they may drive these demonic forces away from our land. Amen.
