Judgment and dancing

1 Kings 19:15-17 (NLT)
Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet. Anyone who escapes from Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and those who escape Jehu will be killed by Elisha!

Hazael–God has seen
Aram–highlands
Jehu–Jehovah is he
Nimshi–one who rescues those in danger
Elisha–my God is salvation
Shaphat–judgment
Abel-meholah–meadow of dancing

I find it interesting that Elisha, the son of “judgment” is from the “meadow of dancing.” In our Western mindset, we don’t associate judgment with dancing, but Holy Scripture does.

Praise his name with dancing, Mississippi, accompanied by musical instruments, for the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them. Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and the Sword of the Spirit in their hands—to execute vengeance on the evil, to bind their demonic kings with shackles and demonic leaders with iron chains, to execute the judgment written against them in Holy Scripture.

This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones. Praise the Lord!

Adaped from Psalm 149:3-9
