The “Three Weeks” between the 17th of Tammuz and the Tisha B’Av have historically been days of misfortune and calamity for the Jewish people. These days are referred to as the period “within the straits” (Lamentations 1:3).
Psalm 18:25-29 (NLT)
To the faithful you show yourself faithful;
to those with integrity you show integrity.
To the pure you show yourself pure,
but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
You rescue the humble,
but you humiliate the proud.
You light a lamp for me.
The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.
In your strength I can crush an army;
with my God I can scale any wall.
Our Father in heaven,
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come into Israel like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
We lift high the cross over Israel, Lord.
When the enemy shall come into Mississippi like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
We lift high the cross over Mississippi. Amen.
