Twenty-four

1 Chronicles 20:6-7 (NLT)
In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants. But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea.

Revelation 4:6b-8 (NLT)
In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Gath–a wine-vat
Jonathan–gift of God
Shimei–to hear, listen, obey

Twenty-four digits from wine-vat land
Taunted Israel in his last stand.
Tutored by ears to obey,
Jonathan did the giant slay.

Twenty-four wings with eyes all round
Continuously make a joyous sound.
Fourfold faces, sixfold wings,
Their praise without measure rings.

O Lord, how the liquor stores reign
In the Mississippi Delta farming plain.
Slay this giant named alcohol,
While we upon our knees do fall,
Singing praise all around,
Giving rise to a new sound.
