Physicists say space-time is expanding.
As our car skims Highway 49 across the Delta expanse,
Is it expanding faster here?
The horizon seems further,
And the soil closer.
Past iniquities color the present like a port wine stain.
Past revelation of Jesus Christ pierces the future like a laser beam.
I glimpse a reflection of the sunset in the still waters along our way,
And it intimates a far greater reality,
The testimony of the three witnesses–
The water of His baptism,
The blood at His cross,
The Spirit, who is truth.
Faith is expanding faster here.
Hope is expanding faster here.
Love is expanding faster here.
Kneeling at church, I glimpse a reflection of the altar in the silver chalice,
The fair linen transfigured into an expanding arc,
And it intimates a far greater reality.
