From the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association (vol. 57, no. 10): Over the past decade, the prevalence of child overweight and obesity have been assessed biannually within the state of Mississippi through the Child and Youth Prevalence of Obesity Survey. Data collected indicate the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Mississippi have not increased or decreased significantly since 2005, remaining higher than national rates. The data also suggest ongoing and increasing disparities between black and white students, with a higher prevalence among black students.
There is a significant linear decrease in obesity prevalence among elementary students from 2005 to 2015.
Psalm 84:3-4 (NIV)
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.
We pray that the families of the Mississippi Delta will build their homes under Your shelter, that they will order their lives by Your created design. If the ants can store its provisions in summer and gather its food at harvest, surely the families of the Mississippi Delta can learn the foresight, enthusiasm, perseverance, and hard work to eat healthily. Have mercy, Lord. Have mercy. Amen.
